Hon Queenstar Maame pokuah Sawyerr impact at PAC

The member of Parliament for Agona East constituency, the local government select commitee chairperson on rural affairs Hon Queenstar Maame pokuah Sawyer
Over the past two days, the Public Accounts Committee engaged a number of public institutions on findings contained in the Auditor General’s reports.
Among the key institutions and issues examined were:
- Bank of Ghana – matters arising from the management of foreign exchange receipts and payments, including compliance with established controls and reporting frameworks.
- Ghana Revenue Authority – issues relating to revenue assurance, tax administration processes, and accountability in the management of public funds.
- Ministry of Finance and related agencies – oversight of petroleum revenues and the use of statutory funds.
- Ghana Education Service and local government authorities – serious gaps identified in the provision and maintenance of toilet facilities in public schools, raising concerns about sanitation, dignity, and value for money.
- Transport sector institutions, including Ghana Airports Company Limited, Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, Ghana Shippers’ Authority, Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, and Volta Lake Transport Company Limited, where governance, compliance, and financial performance issues were interrogated.
The Committee’s approach was firm but fair. Where improvements were evident, they were acknowledged. Where lapses persist, clear directives were issued.
Oversight is about strengthening institutions, protecting public resources, and ensuring accountability to the Ghanaian people.
The work continues.
