NATIONAL COUNCIL ON PERSONS WITH DISABILITY (NCPD) PARTNERS NADMO TO BUILD THE CAPACITY OF CENTRAL REGIONAL DISASTER MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE (RDMC) MEMBERS

In executing NADMO’s mandate, we recognize that disasters do not affect all persons equally and that persons with disabilities are often disproportionately impacted before, during and after disasters, largely due to systemic barriers, communication gaps, and environmental constraints. Therefore, NADMO has partnered with the NCPD to build the capacity of members of the Central Regional Disaster Management Committee for them to understand the policies/ framework/ guidelines for disability inclusive disaster risk management inorder to internalize them and to translate them into practical action.
Our able Regional Director, Hon E. Kwesi Dawood Mensah commended the Regional Minister, the CRCC, the three (3) Regional Police Commanders, the Regional Fire Service Commander, the Regional Immigration Commander, the Regional BNI Commander, the Regional Prisons Commander, the Regional Ambulance Service Commander, the Regional National Security Liaison Officer, the Regional GMET Director, the Regional Red Cross Manager and other RDMC members who are often the first line of response in times of emergencies for the continued support they give to NADMO Central in discharging our mandate especially with reference to inclusivity.
In his concluding remarks, our Regional Director highly commended the Director General of NADMO for his new direction & transformational leadership which is positioning the organization on a better pedestal now. “It is clear that the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) is entering a new era under the leadership of Major (Rtd) Dr. Joseph Bikanyi Kuyon. Since his appointment by President John Dramani Mahama in early 2025, his tenure has been defined by a transition from reactive relief to a sophisticated, proactive model of Disaster Risk Management (DRM) worthy of commendation by all” he stated.
The seasoned Facilitators Mr Joshua Addy– National Coordinator for NCPD and CDCO Bright– from NADMO HQ charged the Stakeholders to ensure early warning systems are accessible to all, evacuation plans account for mobility, communication & psychosocial needs, relief distribution are equitable & dignified and recovery interventions must not deepen existing vulnerabilities because disability inclusion in disaster risk management is not charity but a matter of rights, equity & effective governance. Copies of the Guidelines were presented to the RCC & to NADMO Central.
