CENTRAL REGIONAL NADMO LEADERSHIP PAYS A COURTESY CALL ON NADMO’s GOVERNING COUNCIL CHAIRMAN.-Hon Kwesi Dawood


The Central Regional leadership of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) has paid a formal courtesy call to Hon. Samuel Atta Mills to congratulate him on his well deserved appointment by H. E. John Dramani Mahama as the Chairman of the NADMO Governing Council.
This visit was not just ceremonial; it was a strong show of regional support for a leader who hails from the Central Region, specifically Kissi in the Komenda -Edina -Eguafo -Abrem constituency where serves as the 3rd term Member of Parliament and also a leader whose Senior Brother is a former President of Ghana.
Led by the Regional Director and ably supported by the Deputy Regional Directors and 20 out of the 24 Metro/Municipal / District & Sub Metro Directors from the Region, there was a high level discussion bordering on strategic enhancements in disaster management for the Region with the deliberations focused on moving from a reactive organuzation to a proactive one, resilience -based approach in operations etc in line with the NADMO Act 2016 (Act 927), resilience & preparedness plans, prioritizing early warning systems, better sub national infrastructure & risk zones, efficient resource allocation, collaboration with local government & Nananom and proactive enforcements.
On behalf of all District Directors from the Region, the Ekumfi District Director who is their Chairman also the Gyaasehen of the Ekumfi Tradional Area, Nana Peter Amoah enumerated key challenges the MMDA’s and their staffs are encountering and also provided very useful suggestions for redress.
Key take aways from the Regional Director & his Deputies are summarized below:
Regional Pride: they expressed immense pride in seeing one of their own elevated to the highest policy-making body of the organization.
Strengthening Ties: the meeting served to bridge the gap between the National Governing Council, the Regional Secretariat & the MMDA’s ensuring that local challenges are directly heard at the policy level.
Commitment to the new mandate: Hon. Samuel Atta Mills reiterated his commitment to the “paradigm shift” required by the NADMO Act 2016 (Act 927)—moving the organization from a reactive “relief-sharing” body to a proactive “risk-reduction” agency and pledged to support the Major (rtd) Dr Joseph B. Kuyon led management to deliver. Focus on Resources: The regional team used the opportunity to brief the Chairman on specific regional needs, including the requirement for more modern equipments for operations, office logistics, vehicles for MMD Directors & motor bikes for Zonal directors to enhance efficiency. Pressing Issues: such as promotions for staff, new recruitments to fill existing vacancies, scheme of service, adequate relief provision, Reinstatement of victimised staffs and the Disaster Management Committees.
Hon Samuel Atta Mills was overcome with joy, took note of all concerns, gave assurances where practicable, offered important guidance, gave explanations where applicable and supported the delegation as tradition demands😃.
