HAZARD MAPPING EXERCISE ON FUEL AND GAS FILLING STATIONS BY THE MONITORING AND EVALUATION UNIT OF THE CENTRAL REGIONAL NADMO SECRETARIAT AT THE KEEA MUNICIPALITY AND THE CAPE COAST METROPOLIS IS ONGOING.

NADMO CENTRAL
Led by our Regional Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, Mrs Jane Adu Sekyim, the Regional Public Relations Officer, Mr Samuel Essel Duku and the Deputy Head of the Regional Rapid Response Team, Mr Douglas Hammond, the Regional office has intensified our usual hazard mapping and identification exercise at fuel and gas filling stations within Region, commencing from the KEEA Municipality and the Cape Coast Metropolis.
The team has visited a number of fuel filling stations and gas dispensing stations to inspect safety measures as well as the required documents needed to operate. Safety aspects were, the siting & location risk (filling stations closer to flood prone areas, closer to densely populated zone, etc), the inspection of fire extinguishers, sand boxes, first aid kits, safety boots for fuel attendants, emergency exit points at both gas and fuel stations as well as nose protective wears for gas attendants at the various gas stations.
Moreover, the legal documents which permits them to operate, such as the fire permits certificate, the NPA permit certificate, the National Insurance commission permits, the EPA permits as well as the Metro & Municipal assembly permits were also inspected accordingly. Most of the filling stations inspected so far have adhered to the safety protocols with perfect documentations as well, especially the Goil and Shell filling stations. It was some of the ‘non-famous filling stations whose permits were expired.
The officers advised the managers or supervisors of the facilities whose required documents were expired to ensure they are renewed immediately whilst charging the Metro & the municipal NADMO officers to make the required follow up to find out if those recommendations have been adhered to accordingly. In all places visited and inspected, the officers took the opportunity to educate the fuel attendants on the benefits of using the safety boots when attending to customers as well as the availability of the sand box and it’s usage and benefit.
